Sister BJ's Pantry was founded by Sister Barbara Joseph, a Carmelite Sister of Saint Thereses of the Infant Jesus in Oklahoma City, in 2006.
“Our mission is that of being of immediate but effective service to the homeless in all their needs, material and spiritual, until they can find some others who can help them in a better and more lasting way.”

The Corporal Works of Mercy are found in the teachings of Jesus and give us a model for how we should treat all others, as if they were Christ in disguise.
The Pantry is modeled after The Corporal Works of Mercy.
The Spiritual Works of Mercy have long been a part of the Christian tradition, these works guide us to help our neighbor in their spiritual needs.
Corporal Works of Mercy Feed the hungry. Give drink to the thirsty. Clothe the naked. Visit the imprisoned. Shelter the homeless. Visit the sick. Bury the dead. |
Spiritual Works of Mercy Instruct the ignorant. Counsel the doubtful. Admonish the sinners. Bear patiently those who wrong us. Forgive offenses. Comfort the afflicted. Pray for the living and the dead. |
